women with their hands directly on the controls, they go through rigorous screening for mental health before they're hired, but once again, there's nothing mandatory once they're on the job. but it's also important to keep this in perspective, we're told that there are more than 32,000 flights every single day. and these incidents are few and far between. the question is, and the conclusion of transportation experts, one incident does not a trend make. dan? >> very useful perspective. meanwhile, big developments in the presidential race this morning, it's your voice, your vote. rick santorum scoring a decisive win in kansas. 51% of the votes. mitt romney picked up some delegates. in a few american territories, including guam. but overall santorum won the day. on tuesday, two big states mississippi and alabama. let's bring in the host of abc's "this week," george stephanopoul stephanopoulos.
8:09 am
>> it's an important key state for republicans and it was a very big win there for rick santorum. neither newt gingrich and mitt romney, once they saw the writing on the wall, they didn't play that hard in the last few days. romney is still claiming when you add up all of the delegates in wyoming, in those pacific territories, in kansas, thate actually gained more delegates than rick santorum and either way he still has twice as many as rick santorum right now. >> let's look forward to tuesday, two big primaries, coming up, alabama and mississippi. throughout this race, the big question is, when can rick santorum sew this up? >> if mitt romney wins in either mississippi or alabama that's almost certainly going to increase the pressure on rick santorum and newt gingrich to get out. both of them are saying they're going all the way to tampa. they're not going to get out. that would be a big surprise
8:10 am
if romney would win in the south. if you just look at it again, that delegate math, it's very difficult for romney to get all of the delegates he needs before may, maybe june. >> so, if the math shows that neither romney or gingrich can get enough delegates on their own to really win this, why are they staying in? >> newt gingrich, pride. and there may be a little bluster there as well. i wouldn't be shocked if he didn't drop out before tampa. but rick santorum can be a force going forward. he's leading the conservative cause. i don't expect him to drop out any time soon. the more delegates he picks up the more he can demand from mitt romney if romney is the nominee. >> i said before and i'll say it again, full employment act for george stephanopoulos, thank you. george has another big show this morning, senators charles

8:12 am
>> reporter: his nickname was zorro. his loss, a shock to the skiing community. >> it took a moment to remember, to really take it in for nick. >> he was doing what he absolutely loves. what's really important to their whole family. >> reporter: his death comes just weeks after freestyle skier sarah burke, died after training. also died of head injuries. these now sanctioned x games-type events can be thrilling. but the danger level is high, too. >> there's nothing mellow about the sports that we're doing and the tricks we're doing. >> i think it's imperative for any international governing body at any time that there's a tragedy like this, to go back and look to see what they can do better. my sense, while they'll look

into this, they won't change much. it will end up being a sad moment in the sport. >> reporter: the son of a well-known ski coach, nick moved with his family to canada from sarajevo when he was 5. he said that he was superstitious. ski authorities are calling this a freak accident. they canceled the races yesterday and today as well, dan. >> thank you. you know, one year ago today, we all watched the unimaginable unfold in japan and today, in that country there were moments of silence and the sounds of bells ringing 19,000 times to remember both the missing and the dead. we all remember these images. the biblical destruction triggered by the earthquake and the tsunami. and the nuclear panic that followed. but what is life like there now,

8:20 am
tebow was not available for comment. but whatever happens next, he's surely already learned what manning said that he learned when the colts cut him after 14 years -- football is a business. and in unsentimental business, apparently with some unsentimental fans in denver, denver posts cites a source that tebow is philosophical about it all. manning is expected to make a decision in the next couple of days, it could be denver and where tebow could be finito. >> thank you, ron. >> who's next, jeremy lin? all right, we have been following prince harry's adventures in central and south america,
